Prov 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
KJV
Just two days separate us from another New Year. In one way Friday should be no different than any other Friday of the year. We are not going to have any slate wiped clean because a New Year begins. We will have the same bills in January that we did in September, students will be in the same grade, jobs will stay the same, relationships will not change because the year is numbered with a 16 and not a 15. Yet in others ways Friday will be different because many think of the beginning of a New year as different, as a time to begin afresh and anew. That being said we ought to have a vision for the New Year, what we want it to be like, and for the Christian that needs to be a spiritual vision. I am not saying that we need to make promises and resolutions before God, nor am I saying that we need to boast of what we plan to do in this New Year. But we ought to have a vision, that is what the Bible says. Could it be that we determine within ourselves to be more faithful in reading our Bible, more faithful in prayer, more faithful in service for the Lord? Could we have a vision such as that? Could we determine to be more compassionate, more loving, more helpful to our brothers and sisters in Christ? Could we determine to be a brighter light for Jesus Christ? There are visions we could have for this coming year and things that if we take them before the Lord in prayer He will give us the power to see come to fruition. There is nothing wrong with looking ahead and we certainly need a vision.
