Gen 2:16-17 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
KJV
Not every promise made by God in the Bible is a joyous one as we see in this first one. But every promise in the Bible is a sure one as we see in this first one. I held the hand of a dying man yesterday and watched him step into eternity and thought about this verse, thought about how true it was and continues to be. Eve doubted it as we see in Genesis chapter 3, but that did not change the truth of the promise and when man fell he proved God true to His Word. Because this promise is true I can depend upon every other promise in the Bible to be true as well, God has never and will never break His Word. I thank God for the precious promises in the Bible, but for those not so precious to me as well, for they all prove God to be true. For example we find this promises in Gal 6:7 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” I don’t have to wonder if that is true, all I need do is remember Genesis chapter 2. God always keeps His promises! Tomorrow we will direct our attention to some more joyous than the first one we find in the Bible.
