2 Tim 3:1-5 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
KJV
One of the characteristics of the last days is an unthankful nature in people. (Verse 2) There are a number of things named in these verses, things that certainly grieve the heart of God, among them is being unthankful. With thanksgiving coming next week I thought we might look at some of the reasons people are so unthankful in these last days. People certainly are unthankful. Hold a door for someone, allow them to get in front of you in line, and see how many people just say thank you, not many will.
One reason is the selfish nature of people and society today. It has become a get all you can world and people have grown to think they are entitled to everything that they want or see. They should be first in line, they should have the best things, they deserve to be out front, people have grown very selfish. The Bible tells us that we are to look upon the needs of others. (Phil 2:3-4 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.) Yet we find today that few would ever even consider the needs of others above their own. We have become so selfish in our desires that we tend to think we deserve all that we have and never see a need to say thank you. Take some time today to say thank you for the things you have been given and if you have a hard time naming them think of the things God has given you. Do we ever even say thank you to God, have we become that selfish?
