Acts 13:1-3 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

I have heard it said that every Christian is a missionary. Is that true? It is true that every Christian has been called to be a witness for Christ, that we are to let our “Light shine” and share our faith with others. But are we all missionaries? That answer is no. A missionary is one called into full time service for the Lord who leaves all for Christ and is called to cross cultural and many times geographical lines to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with those lost in sin. In that regard we are not all missionaries. As one shares the gospel with those around them, with family, friends, co-workers, strangers that we come in contact with we are doing as we have been commanded by Christ, we are being a witness for Him. On the other hand a missionary will be sent great distances from home and family, often to a place where they must learn the culture and language, and then be a witness for Christ, thus taking upon themselves an additional burden of being away from people and things familiar. That is why we need to pray for missionaries and missions, they are called to do something that most of us for one reason or another are not able to do. We all can be a witness, but a missionary has a special calling.
