Heb 9:12
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
KJV
The theme of our devotions this week will be redemption. Many of the old signposts of the Bible are being lost today, many of the terms that are the foundation of bible salvation are being swept aside and are lost for the next generations. Redemption is I fear one of them. Ask young people today about redemptions and few understand what you are asking about. When sin was taken out of preaching there became no need for redemption and so that phrase is not known. Yet here we have the very foundation of salvation, eternal redemption. To be redeemed means to be bought back, to be purchased with a price. That means something was owned, lost to another, and then bought back. Redemptions never comes cheap in the Bible. We may shop for things at a discount, not God, Biblical redemption is a costly thing. But what is being bought back? Man is. Created by God, God’s possession was lost to Satan in the garden when Adam sinned. That sin was passed onto us in our sinful nature, a nature that we are all born with. In order to be saved, in order the have a relationship with God, in order to go to heaven we need to be redeemed. we need to be bought back. We are the objects of biblical redemption, we have the need, not some but all of us. As we are the ones with the need we ought to understand redemption. That will be our theme this week.
