51 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Have you ever made mistakes, bad choices, developed bad habits, done things you regret, went places you should have avoided, watched things you shouldn’t have? We all have done these sort of things have we not? Do you know what God calls them? God calls them sin. When David sinned he could have said he made a mistake, made a bad choice, looked at the wrong thing and it got him into trouble. David may very well have said all those things to himself and others, but God called it sin. In order to get right with God David had to call it sin as well, confess it, and turn away from it. That is what Psalm 51 is about, a man getting right with God. It ought to be our desire to have a right relationship with God even after salvation, perhaps most especially after salvation. In order for that to happen we must walk uprightly before our God and in order to do that there must be some things put out of our lives and those things fall under one heading, sin. We need to see ourselves in light of the Word of God, see ourselves as God sees us. God was not pleased with David’s actions leading up to Psalm 51 and God was dealing with David but for David to be right with God David needed to see sin as God did. David did not make a mistake, did not make a bad choice, David sinned. In these first few verses of this Psalm David sees sin for what it is and confesses before God. I want to look at Psalm 51 this week and our relationship with God bit for that to be right, our relationship with God, we need to look at our lives and see the things that God calls sin. What is it in our lives today that we think is not so bad but God calls sin? What do we need to confess?
