John 10:27-30 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
30 I and my Father are one.

One of the things that come from being known by the shepherd and knowing him is security. Sheep I am told are very dumb animals, but one thing they know to do is trust the shepherd. They trust him for provision, for direction, for shelter and protection. None in the flock worry of they are really his, if the shepherd will really take care of them, if he will be there tomorrow, the sheep simply trust the shepherd. Many times in the Bible the child of God is likened to a sheep. The purpose is not to make one feel dumb, but an illustration of trust and security. How much can I trust the Good Shepherd to take care of my soul, to take care of my life? More than any dumb sheep ever trusted a shepherd.
