John 10:1-6 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
6 This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.

Some of the greatest truths of Scripture are set before us and are often overlooked as we study the Word of God and one of them is found in our text this morning. This parable of the Good shepherd speaks of the one and only way of salvation through Jesus Christ. It speaks of the abundant life we can have in Christ. It opens the pathway of a look at Christ on the cross. It sheds light on the gospel being offered to the Gentiles. It shows the unbreakable chain of salvation later in the chapter. And along with those things it shows the intimate relationship we have with the Lord. Notice in verse three above “He calleth His own sheep by name”. To me this is such a precious verse and tremendous truth, Jesus knows my name! I was in a grocery store on Saturday and stood at the check out life in front of a man, looked at him, he looked at me and we nodded and turned back to our own business. I thought I know him and turned again and him to me as we realized we did know each other. On Friday night a similar thing happened at a high school football game. Do you know that never happens with our Savior? He knows us, knows our name, calls us by name, knows all about us, every circumstance we find ourselves in, even knows how many hairs on our head, Jesus Christ knows us, Jesus Christ knows me! Not only does He know me He willingly leads me through each day, cares about every part of my day, wants to be the closest person in my life, He is my Good Shepherd. Take some time this morning, some time today to think of just how much you mean to the Lord.
