Gen 3:6-9 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

This morning we see the first question recorded in the Bible as God seeks an answer from Adam. God knew where Adam was and God knew what Adam had done. When God asks a question it is never because God needs to know something or doesn’t know something, God is all-knowing all the time. Rather God is demanding an answer from man. When God asked this of Adam God was making Adam confront his sin, confess his sin. Had Adam failed to do that he would have had to spend eternity in a lost state, spend eternity in hell. After Adam was forced to answer this question I believe he repented and asked for forgiveness of God. Why do I believe that? Because of the coats of skins made by God, because of the blood shed by God, because of the covering made by God. God to be sure asks this question of every individual born into this world in drawing them to Christ, “Where are thou?” Where are you this morning in your relationship to Christ, in your relationship with God? Are you like Adam hiding from the issue of sin, hiding from God, hoping you will never have to meet God or answer to Him? Like Adam you will find that you cannot hide from God, God knows the condition of your heart, the state of your soul, where you are right now, God doesn’t have to ask. Better to answer Him now, face your sin, confess it and repent, better to turn to Christ now rather than spend eternity in hell.
