14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
Our Vacation Bible School at Cherry Corner Bible Church starts one week from today so for this week we will be looking at children in the Bible. Several years ago we went through a period of time when our numbers for VBS were in the 70 – 80 range for children, we had a packed house as they say. As time has gone by we have watched a steady decline in the numbers. Now we are not to be about numbers, but what does that say about parents and their attitude about children today? Same church, same stand, same King James Bible, nothing has changed except the number of children that are being brought to VBS. It should not be shocking that the community around us has little interest in sending their children as they once did because those that were sent before are parents now. Notice I said, those that were sent. The parents of a generation ago were not committed to the Lord, they sent their children to church, they did not bring them. This is not only in the community, it is now in the church, this lack of commitment to bring children to the Lord. I watch parents come in for church week after week, who just skip Sunday School. Their teens are not in Sunday School, not in our youth classes, the younger ones are not in our children’s program and so on. Then they will wonder what happened when the kids grow up, why they have real interest in spiritual things. It is because they ignored bringing them to Jesus when they had the opportunity. If you want them to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven you need to get them to Jesus early and often, don’t let them to suffer.
