2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.
And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.
4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
Not only did Aaron fail in his opportunity to stand up and speak up for the Lord, he then went along with the evil ways of the people. It was bad enough that he stood silent and offered no opposition to their desire for an idol, Aaron then engage in sin with them. When one fails to stand against evil, that which is against Bible truth, you can be sure that same one will engage in those evil practices over time. One does not get stronger in the Lord by going with the flow as they say, the flow takes them away from the Lord and soon sin is flooding over them. I know of many pastors who have failed to stand against sin only to find those same sins in their families if not in them personally. Aaron’s silence brought Aaron to sin.
