Daily Devotions

May 11th, 2015 by Pastor Solley

Thank you for your patience in not having devotionals last week as we were in NC Tuesday through Friday visiting our daughter, her husband and our grandson.
Ex 32:1-6 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.
3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.
4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the Lord.
6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

Our lives are filled with missed opportunities, things we had opportunity to do but we let them slip past us. Most things are not that big of a deal, but some can be defining moments in our lives. We also have opportunities in the spiritual realm and they are a big deal. A person has the opportunity to be born again, from the moment they can understand the gospel until the moment they die they have the opportunity to be saved. To miss that is to miss heaven and gain hell. After one is saved they have opportunity to serve the Lord, opportunity to worship the Lord, opportunity to stand for the Lord and so on. These should not be squandered for they determine our rewards in heaven. In our text passage this morning a man is presented an opportunity to stand up for the Lord God. Moses and Joshua are up on Mount Sinai getting the Law of God, communion with God, Aaron was left to watch over the children of Israel. The people soon lost sight of what was happening and began to wonder if Moses was ever coming back to them. (Verse 1) What to do was the question on the minds of the people. So they came to Aaron and demanded that he make them other gods to follow, other gods to serve. (Verse 1) What was Aaron to do? Consider today what his opportunity was, what he could do in the face of these people and tomorrow we will begin to look at what he missed.
