9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.
10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
The next thing we see in this prayer of Jabez is a request that his coast would be enlarged. Many would look at this and think Jabez is praying for more possessions, more land, or something along that order. Jabez is asking for more responsibility, for something more to do in way of serving the Lord. Jabez was an honorable man, more honorable the Bible tells us in verse 9 and he was looking to go even beyond that, Jabez wanted to serve. Is that something that you desire to do in your life, serve the Lord? It should be, but is it? Many reading this will say yes, but does your life and actions show that? Just going to church is not serving, it is obeying, it is worship, but it is not serving. What is it that you did for the Lord yesterday, last week, and last month? Most people who claim to be saved by Jesus do nothing for Jesus, that is not serving. Some claim there is nothing for them to do, yet we see Jabez asking of God, seeking for more and more things to do for the Lord. Have you asked Him?
