9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicted a harsh winter for the Northeaster United States and a harsh winter for PA. Back in mid to late December I was getting into the woods cutting fire wood, no snow, slightly colder temperatures, but nothing out of the ordinary. I remember commenting how the Almanac was wrong. We now enter into another week with frigid temperatures, snow and high winds. It will not get above 5 degrees today, the wind chill is about -35, and it will get colder tomorrow with another storm front coming through. We set record lows just last Sunday, it is a hard, hard winter here in central PA and the Northeast, the Almanac was right.
I am reminded that is how many view the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Why hasn’t the Lord appeared as of yet, is He coming at all many ask. There are scoffers in these last days. (2 Peter 3:3-4 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.) Yet we can trust the bible far more than we can the Almanac. Just because it has not happened yet doesn’t mean it isn’t going to. Just like our harsh winter, it took some time in coming but it is here. So it is with the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. He promised His sure return, 1 in 25 New Testament verses speak of the Second Coming, Jesus is coming again. Are your ready for His return?
