33 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
2 Thus saith the Lord the maker thereof, the Lord that formed it, to establish it; the Lord is his name;
3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
Jeremiah was a prophet who had many ups and downs in his life, more downs than ups we would say. He was belittled by kings, despised by the people, imprisoned and placed in the stocks, his only crime being a faithful preacher of the Word of God. Even as God called him to the office of prophet he was told that the people would not believe the message God gave him and would react in a fierce way toward hi. What were the ups then in Jeremiah’s life? One of them is found in Jer 33:3. Because Jeremiah would call upon the Lord he would be heard, God would answer his prayers, and God would go above and beyond what Jeremiah could ask or think. Isn’t it wonderful to know that we can serve and worship the very same God today and what God told to Jeremiah is true for all who place their faith and trust completely in the Lord? You may wonder this morning why this doesn’t seem to be true in your life, why Jer 33:3 seems to be lacking. If that is true of you today then perhaps you need to trust in the Lord the way Jeremiah did, perhaps you need to faithfully follow the Lord as Jeremiah did, perhaps you need to stay true in the downs of life as Jeremiah did. Remember our God changes not.
