February 16th, 2015 by Pastor SolleyGen 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Ps 71:18 Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.
Yesterday someone told me that there are only two places in the entire world where it is colder than in the northeastern United States and I can believe it. -15 early this morning and expecting a high of about 9 above to 15 above today, it is cold. I got to thinking of how much harder the cold is on me now than it was 20, 30 years ago and how wonderful it would be if it would just warm up. I have the consolation that it will soon, it can’t stay this cold for very long, not even here in PA, spring is coming. That promise is made in the Bible. Gen 8:22 is the first mention of the word cold in the Bible and we see that there will be heat that follows the cold, summer will follow winter. Still a more comforting truth than that can be found in Ps 71:18 concerning the old, that we will not be forsaken, that we can show the strength of the Lord to the generation that follows us. Just some random thoughts about the cold and age underscored by this, yesterday we were one of few churches throughout the area that canceled no services and we had people out in both morning and evening services in their 80s, and not just a few. Then we had others who were much, much younger, who let me know it was just too cold to go out.
