1 Tim 4:12-14 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

In many places, homes and ministries, the value that is to be placed on the young ones is missing. Now Timothy was no child or young teen when this was written, but he was a young man, he was one that some might look at and say he was “Too young to do anything, too young to hold a position or pastor a church”. Yet at this point in his life young Timothy knew what God had called him to do and was ready for the task. Why? Because of the training that did begin when he was a baby held in the arms of his mother.
(2 Tim 3:14-15 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.) The spiritual training of this young man began when he was a baby. In the days of his youth Timothy was given the Word of God in such a way it moved him to salvation at an early age. I thank the Lord Jesus Christ today for parents who took me to church, who gave out the Word of God in the home, who prayed, and that from the time I was a baby as Timothy was. This is even more important today than it was in Timothy’s day or when I was a young child because of the evil that is thrust upon the youth of today. In the world today, in schools and on TV they learn to be disrespectful, rebellious, self serving, they are introduced to alcohol and drugs, they see the world through Satan’s eyes, and they need to know there is another way of life, a different way to live. Do not despise their youth, read the Bible and pray in the home, get them to church and Sunday School, do your part so God can do His. Timothy had a mother and a grandmother who were willing to do their parts.
