Prov 5:1-2 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

Ever notice how many people lack discretion today? Discretion means in part to use caution, make wise and mature decisions, not to be careless or rash in what one does or the way one appears. Discretion is something that has all but disappeared in society today. Look at the way people dress, and not just the young people. Look at how people behave and conduct themselves in public. There is most definitely a lack of discretion today among people young and old. People act as if what they do has no bearing on anyone else or their own future, they act without discretion. Yet the Bible tells us a good man will act with discretion. (Ps 112:5 A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.) Part of the reason God directed Solomon to pen the words of the Proverbs was to give discretion to the young. (Prov 1:1-4 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.) In truth God wants us to act in discretion and not foolishly. Where then does one find discretion? We find discretion as we follow and obey the Word of God. Over the next few days we will look at some who acted with discretion and some whop did not and where those actions took them. Remember, God wants us to act with discretion.
