December 30th, 2014 by Pastor SolleyLuke 13:6-9 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.
Here we see the longsuffering nature and patience of the Lord. There should have been fruit found on these vines, but there was none. All the work was done, the vines planted, watered, kept, and now there should have been fruit. The certain man had every right to tear out the vines, but he would wait yet again, wait another year, and then his patience would be at an end. My friend, our Lord is patient and longsuffering, but His patience will come to an end as well. As we look back at the past year and all our failings before God we should thank Him for His patience toward us. But we should also realize that His patience will have an end, that we need to make changes in our lives, ask for His forgiveness and for His mercy and grace. When we do this we know that He hears us when we pray and forgives our sins and shortcomings. Yet there needs to be an expected end, there needs to be fruit on the vine when he comes again. Tomorrow we will consider how the fruit will come. For today let us seek His mercy and grace, His forgiveness as we consider our failures over the past year.
