It is amazing how many things people pursue to their own destruction, to their own death. Alcohol, drugs, tobacco, illicit sex, the list goes on and on. It seems the more the Bible speaks against something the more people want to be given to it. Ever stop and wonder what people are doing and why? The root of the problem is the sin nature and the cure is Christ, but it just amazes me what people do to themselves. A few months ago I was at a chemo clinic and watched a man sitting with his wife who was dying of cancer, during her treatment he had to go out side to have a cigarette several times. I have watched families and lives destroyed by alcohol only to see the same people drink more and more. Yet I do want to make application to the Christian here as we often neglect the things that we need to be doing to our own destruction. Are we doing the things on a daily basis that lead to the more abundant life in Christ? Will you take time today to read your Bible? Will you take time to pray? Will you ask the Lord to guide your steps today, to lead you in your life? Will you take time to serve Him today? These things all lead to the abundant life Jesus promised, but will we take the time to do them? Now a Christian can never be spiritually dead, but if we do not do our part it sure can seem like we are. Why not do the things that add to life and not to death?
