Acts 8:1-3 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.
3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.

No one would look at the life of Saul and even dare to imagine he would end up serving the Lord Jesus Christ. Saul was consenting to the death by stoning of Stephen in chapter 7, he hated Christians, hated the name of Christ and most likely voted to have Jesus condemned to the cross as well. Here was a man being used by Satan to destroy the church and just a short time later would be used by Jesus to build the church. What happened with Saul? He was born again, he saw his sin, saw Jesus, repented and asked Jesus to forgive and save him, Saul was born again. That is the need of everyone who hates and fights against the church, the Bible, and the Christian today, they need to be born again. Now Christian we need to stand for truth, stand for the Bible and stand opposed to all who fight against the turn of the Word of God and the cause of Christ. But the most effective way to fight is to pray, and not to pray that God destroy them, but for God to save them. So often we look at opposition and say to ourselves that they will get theirs one day. That may be true, but think of who Jesus came to save, of who He loves and died for. What they need is to be saved and we need to pray and witness to that end. When we think of the lost, their actions, and the condition of this world we need also to think of Saul and the change that took place when he was saved.
