Matt 11:1-6 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

The first way that Jesus answered the question of John the Baptist was with the works already done. Certainly John knew of these things, knew of the miracles preformed by Christ, but in a time of trial and testing it is easy for us to forget the things already done by our God. We need to stop and consider at times what Christ has already done for us, prayers answered in the past, miracles that took place in our lives, how the Lord has taken up our part and met our needs. We need not dwell on past blessings but we must not forget what God has done in the past. Many years ago by His mercy and grace, by His shed blood Jesus Christ saved me, forgave my sins and granted unto me eternal life. From that time to this He has time and again answered prayers in my life, sent direction from above, provided for me a life of service for Him, given me the desires of my heart many times, and worked miracles in the lives of those around me. When I am tried and tested it does me good to think of what God has already done for me, done in my life. It does me good because it assures me that my God is bigger than any problem I will ever face on this side of heaven. John had only to look at what Jesus had already done to be assured that there was none other to look for. What has God already done for you?
