July 15th, 2014 by Pastor SolleyRom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Why not be ashamed of the gospel of Christ? Because it has the power to change lives, the power to save. Could there be any greater need than to have sin forgiven and be made right with God? It is the gospel that has that power and when the gospel is received lives are changed. (Luke 23:40-43 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. 42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.) There is the power of the gospel. That day the gospel took one from the doorstep of hell and placed them in paradise. This man had a very sort time to live, but his life was changed by the gospel. (Acts 9:4-6 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.) There is the power of the gospel. That day it took the greatest enemy of the cross in that day and turned him into the greatest preacher of the cross in his time or even for all time. This man had much longer to live and the gospel changed his life. There is nothing to be ashamed of in the gospel message, and nothing to be ashamed of in the power of the gospel. What has the power to change lives today, really changes lives for the better? Is it the weight loss pill, the new fad diet, is it education, is it money? These will produce only superficial changes. It is only the gospel that has the power to save and change lives, there is nothing to be ashamed of in that.
