June 10th, 2014 by Pastor SolleyIsa 6:1-5 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
The first thing that Isaiah was brought face to face to standing in the presence of the holiness of God was his own unworthiness, he was a man undone, a man of unclean lips. It is said that the closer one gets to God the more they see themselves as they really are, unworthy to be in his presence. Israel at this time was fast heading to judgment and dispersion, the nation had turned to idols, innocent blood was being shed in the land, God’s patience had reached an end. But what Isaiah confesses first is not the sin of the people, but his own. This is a great problem in the church today, people see the sin of others but never their own, see the fault of others but never their own, know what others should be but not what they need to be. In order for an individual to be used of God, to walk in fellowship with God, they need to see themselves for what they are first. As Isaiah saw himself he fell before god and confessed his sin and as we will see was cleansed and forgiven. Before we can be close to God we need to see the holiness of God and the sins in our lives that separate us from Him.
