And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
What happens when we do things at the Word of Jesus? Here we find Peter, Andrew, James and John engaged in a night of fishing, providing a living foe their families, and having not so good a night, they had fished all night and caught nothing. Even as Jesus told them to let down the nets after preaching to the people they knew they would catch nothing. The fishing had been poor, now it was the heat of the day, the best hours had passed, it would be no use to let down those nets. Still, at the words of Jesus the net was put into the water and the catch was so great the net began to break. I would think that from this time these men would always do what Jesus told them to do. This should be the testimony of our lives as well, that we do according to the word of the Lord. Some things are hard to be understood, some seem as if they have little opportunity to work, yet at the name of Jesus they are to be done. What would happen in our lives if we just obeyed the Word of God, if we stopped making excuses and just did what the Bible tells us to do. Could it be that the net of our lives would be filled with blessings just as the net of Peter was filled with fish?
