Daily Devotions
May 5th, 2014 by Pastor Solley2 Cor 6:14-18 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
I was reading a sort devotional using that latter part of 2 Cor 6:16 as a text, “I will be their God, and they shall be my people”. It was a beautiful little reading with some precious thought. However the writer completely ignored the context of the passage. God does want to and will be our God, we can be His people all through Jesus Christ. But the sweet communion that this brings is all based on the believer’s separation from the world. One cannot walk in fellowship with, walk in communion with the world and the Lord at the same time. One is darkness, the other is light. Salvation is based on nothing but the blood of Christ, the lost sinner acknowledging his sin, repenting of sin, and asking Jesus Christ to save them. But to walk in fellowship with Christ demands separation from the world. There is a difference between salvation and fellowship.
