April 14th, 2014 by Pastor SolleyMatt 21:8-12 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?
11 And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.
12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
Yesterday was what we call “Palm Sunday” remembering the day that Jesus was offered publicly as the Messiah, the King of Israel. As we approach Easter Sunday I would like to look at a few things concerning the days leading up to the cross. Notice that there were multitudes that went before Jesus as He entered Jerusalem that day, multitudes offering praises to Him, multitudes acknowledging who Jesus Christ is. But also take note of a question that was asked that day found in verse 10, “Who is this?” Not take note of the answer that was given in verse 11, “This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.” The same multitude singing Hosanna to His name, the same multitude calling Him the Son of David, the same multitude claiming that He came in the name of the Lord, that same multitude did not know who Jesus was and is. The answer to the question is that He is the Messiah, He is the Son of God, He is the Christ, He is the Savior of the world. It reminds of the multitudes who will celebrate Easter this coming Sunday as churches will be filled, some will attend who never darken the church doors any other times of the year, yet the multitudes will try and worship one they do not know, most will attend a church on Easter and not know the one who died for them on that cross. Now I am glad for those who will walk into the church house on Sunday, but I am saddened as well that most will leave without coming to know Jesus. Most will be like the multitude on that Palm Sunday of which the most part never came to know Him.
