April 2nd, 2014 by Pastor Solley2 Tim 1:6-9 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
Paul encouraged Timothy to “Stir up the gift of God”. Some think Timothy had become less than he should have been for the Lord, hence the need to be stirred. I don’t think it so much that Timothy was less than he should have been so much as there was more that he could be. How many of God’s children are all that they could be? We may be reading our Bible and in true prayer daily, keep a good testimony, be faithful in the house of God, be serving the Lord, yet there is always more that we could be. As long as we are in this flesh we need to be stirred, stirred by the Holy Spirit of God. Timothy as a young Christian was trained by the Apostle Paul, placed as a Pastor, was working, serving the Lord and we have no indication that he was lacking in any way, yet he needed to be stirred. Friend, we need to be stirred today, stirred by the Holy Spirit to press toward that high mark as Paul under inspiration Holy Spirit wrote about. It does take reading our Bible, praying, being faithful, serving, to be stirred and yet there is more. Timothy was doing all those things. Think about these things today and tomorrow we will consider some other things that bring about this stirring to the Christian.
