March 31st, 2014 by Pastor SolleyJer 33:1-3 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
2 Thus saith the Lord the maker thereof, the Lord that formed it, to establish it; the Lord is his name;
3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
One of the great promises of answered prayer in the Bible is found here in Jeremiah 33:3. While many go to this verse they often overlook the context in which it was given to the prophet. Jeremiah was shut up in the prison. Jeremiah was a faithful servant of the Lord and as such was an enemy of both sinful man and Satan. When a man is faithful to His Lord and Savior, when a man serves the Lord, he can be sure that he will make and have enemies. To these ones, servants of His, the Lord is ever faithful as well. God was reassuring the prophet of His presence, of His power, of His provision, and of His protection as well. Not only did the Lord tell Jeremiah of answered prayer, He revealed once again that He and He alone is in control of all. (Verse 2) That is as great a comfort to the child of God as that of answered prayer. No, God does not cause bad things to happen, God did not cast Jeremiah into the prison, but God limits what the enemy can do and God is standing faithfully by our side through them. In all of his troubles God was answering the prayers of Jeremiah as He will answer our as well.
