March 17th, 2014 by Pastor SolleyGal 6:1-5 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. 3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. 4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
The gift of helping others and bearing the burdens of others is one that has all but disappeared today. Yet we find we are to lift up those who have fallen, to bear the burdens of others. (Gal 6:1-2) Today is seems that Christians are more concerned with assigning blame than helping, more concerned with pointing out faults than restoring the fallen. It is a lack of teaching on the subject, a lack of love, a lack of brotherly kindness, a matter of selfishness, or something else that causes most people to look at the needs of others and do nothing about it? Some ask what they could do anyway. There is much we can do for a fallen brother or sister, for a brother or sister in need. First, we can pray, not prayer in passing, but really pray for individuals and situations. How much time do you spend in prayer for those outside of you family, for those who are in need? Most Christians I fear pray for little else than their own needs and the needs of those in their family. Then we can make our presence known to the party in need. Just go visit, see them, pray with them in person, and just be there for them. We tell people we are thinking about them, what about being there with them. Visiting is another lost art today; people just don’t visit as they used to or as they could. We would rather spend the time watching the TV, texting on the cell phone, playing with the vide game, or something else that does nothing but waste our time. Yet we are commanded to be a help to others. Take some time this week, some time today, to be a help to others, to pray for them, and yes, go see those in need.
