Mark 8:34-37 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. 36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? 37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Who is going to win the big game on Sunday? That is the question of the week, of the hour isn’t it? A person can place a bet on just about anything involved with the Superbowl. Who will score first, who will score last, how passes will be thrown, score at the end of each quarter, how many rushing touchdown, how many yards gained and so on. A person could make a lot of money on this game. Let us say that a person wages thousands of dollars on different things about this game and wins every bet, that he or she wins millions of dollars on Sunday. Yet what will that mean, what will it really mean as far as their life is concerned. Yes they can purchase things they want, stop working, put their feet up and relax, do what they want. But what does it really mean if they gain the world but lose their soul? That is what Jesus sis saying in our text, what will it profit them? Think about where your heart needs to be, where your affection needs to be, what you should be most concerned about, the game or your soul. The focus of America will be on a game this Sunday, but God is concerned about your soul. Which should we give attention to?
