Luke 13:6-9 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. 7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? 8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: 9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

We are about to embark on another year as we measure time, 2014 is upon us. We will have a watch night service at Cherry Corner tomorrow evening so we can welcome in the New Year with prayer. I remember 14 years ago now and the Y2K and all that it would bring, so we were told. People were getting ready for the world to be plunged into some sort of chaos because of the year change and Christians were getting ready for the rapture. But what happened? Basically nothing, things went on as normal. Now we come to another New Year and we wonder what it will hold, will the Lord Jesus Christ rapture His church in 2014, will we see sin abound more and more, will we have yet another year in this world. Friend, God knows and that needs to be foremost in our hearts and minds, God knows and God is in control. It may be that we will have another year to serve as our text states today. The church has faltered, Christians are not bearing fruit as they should, the darkness gets deeper, but we have another year to begin tomorrow evening. What should we do? We should get back to what we are called to do in the Bible. Spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, spread the news that Jesus died for all and all can be saved, tell the lost about a Savior. Pray and ready your Bible with a renewed commitment in 2014. Get in a good independent Bible believing church and serve the Lord through that local church. The command to attend and to serve through the local church is from God not the preacher. Be faithful in this New Year. That is a resolution every Christian should make.
