December 27th, 2013 by Pastor SolleyPs 116:14-17 I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all his people. 15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. 16 O Lord, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord.
The word “Precious” is found 76 times in the Bible and means something close to the heart, something that stirs pleasant thoughts, something to be treasured. I am reminded by Psalm 116:15 that things precious to God are not always precious to us in the present world in which we live. I have said goodbye to two saints in the past two weeks and paid respects to their families. I have watched the tears flow at the graveside, looked into sorrowing faces, and prayed for those who are grieving. I always thin k of Psalm 116 at such a time, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints”. How thankful I am today for the things that God holds precious. The blood of Jesus Christ is precious to God, the price of salvation is precious to God, our faith in Jesus Christ is precious to God, how thankful I am for that which is precious to God. Friend, we often go through difficult trials in this life, be thankful for the things that are precious to God, be thankful for the one who gave His life to save fallen man, be thankful for the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Be thankful for the things that are precious to God.
