Daily Devotions
December 23rd, 2013 by Pastor Solley1 Tim 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
This week we celebrate the greatest gift ever given and recall the greatest mystery in the world. That Jesus Christ is the answer to both of those things is without controversy. I had a grave side service last week and will attend a funeral this coming week and were it not for the truth of our verse this morning both of those services will be full of grief and no room for anything else. Tears were shed at the grave side last week as I am sure tears will be shed at the funeral this week, but along with those tears will be an overwhelming peace and joy that come only because of what we celebrate this week, only because of Christmas, only because of Jesus Christ. You see both of those departed people knew Jesus Christ as their personal savior from sin and hell. Both turned from sin at one point in their lives and turned to Jesus Christ, both of their own free will decided to repent from sin and accept God’s free gift of salvation in Jesus Christ. Jesus is without controversy the greatest gift that has ever been given. Take time this week to look beyond the gathering of family, to look beyond the exchange of gifts, look beyond the Christmas tree, look beyond those things and look at Jesus. Here is a great mystery, that God was manifest in the flesh. For the next few days we will consider a gift, a mystery that is without controversy.
