Ps 127 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. 2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. 3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. 4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. 5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

A lot of people find it hard to sleep today. Lives overcome with worry, the pressures of the day, family problems, financial problems, health problems, there is a lot on the minds of people today. Then they trust in the wring things or the wrong people. Government will make things better, this doctor or that doctor has the answer, this program or that program can help us out. Yet worries mount and there seems to be no end. What is the answer? This little Psalm has the answer for all of our problems, all of our worries, let the Lord build you house, let the Lord rule in your life. We find that there is really nothing that we can do, nothing that others can do for us, “Except the Lord keep the city”. Everything we try apart from His is vain, no matter how early we get up, how late we stay up, how much effort we put in, it is all vain “Except the Lord keep the city.” If He can keep a city He can certainly keep my house, keep my life.
