November 25th, 2013 by Pastor SolleyPs 100 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. 2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
Five verses that show us that we are to be a thankful people before God are found in Psalm 100. The number one reason we are to be thankful is found in verse 5, “The Lord is good, His mercy is everlasting”. I will visit many people this week, Thanksgiving week, that are going through difficult times. I will visit people with cancer, people in hospitals, people having a hard time financially, people facing hard decisions, and others as well going through trials that I will not name here. Some may wonder what they have to be thankful for and I will take them to the truth found in this Psalm. When we know the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior we become a part of the family of God, we become His people.
(Verse 3) The one thing we can then depend upon is the goodness and mercy of Almighty God, that those things will and do endure, and that God is taking care of His own. Whatever we face this Thanksgiving we do it in the truth that we are His and He is ours, that He is good, that He is merciful, and that He takes care of His own. As a Christian I have much to be thankful for today, everyday, and so do you if you are part of the family of God.
