Rev 14:15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
The word time is found 619 times in the Bible, the first and last times that word is found is our reading this morning. The word times is found another 147 times. It is interesting to me the many times those words are used in connection with man’s failures toward God or God’s judgments like we see in Gen 4:3 and Rev 14:15. It leads me to conclude that man does not make very wise use of his time. Cain had time, and the knowledge, to bring an acceptable sacrifice to the Lord. Time to secure a lamb or another animal of God’s choosing, time to build and altar, or borrow the one his brother used, time to make a sacrifice after God’s order. Instead he used that time to plant, till, and harvest a crop. As far as God was concerned it was wasted time in bringing a sacrifice. In Rev 14:15 man has had thousands of years to repent, to turn from sin and turn to Jesus Christ, but he wasted that time, wasted it away in sin and now the judgment of God is calling. No wonder the Bible tells us to make good use of our time, to be wise in the way we use time. (Eph 5:16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.; Col 4:5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.) What are you going to do with your time today? Will you spend time in the Bible, spend time in prayer? Will you do something for the Lord, will you serve Him today? Or will so much time be spent in front of the TV or the PC that you just don’t have time for those things? How often does God look at us in perhaps the same way that He looked at Cain as we waste our time? How many will fall under the wrath of God because they never took the time to turn to Him?
