Ps 127 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. 2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. 3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. 4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. 5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

We have been doing some remodeling around the house, roof on siding on the outside and then we will do some work on the inside as well. We are doing the siding and will do most of the work on the inside ourselves, but the roof we left to a professional and several reasons for that. My wife tells me I am to old to be up on the roof and I do not bounce as well as I once did, so we hired a contractor for that. But even more important, the roof needs to be done right, needs to keep the water out, so the right person was given the job. There are many things that a husband, a wife take on when they get married and have a home, start a family and many things they try and do for themselves. Our society today bears witness of what will happen when a man tries to build his house, build his family, run his home on his own. But in the Bible we see we are to turn our home, our family over to another, turn it over to the one who knows how to do all things well. I don’t like to use this term, but turn it over to the professional, turn it over to the Lord. No matter the time and effort one puts into building his home it will never be what it could be, what it should be unless the Lord is in it, unless the Lord builds the house.
