October 31st, 2013 by Pastor SolleyLuke 19:1-6 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. 2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. 3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. 4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. 6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
The phrase “Come down” is a common one in the Bible, found 76 times. The first time it is used it is by Joseph to his brothers in Egypt when they did not yet know who he was. The last time it is used of angels during the tribulation period. The most well know is in our text for this morning, Jesus telling Zacchaeus to come down from the tree so He could abide at his house that day. But Jesus was saying much more to that man than to just come down out of the tree. Come down from your pride, come down from your position in the world, come down and humble yourself before Me, come down and be born again. Zacchaeus did all of those things that day, he put pride behind him, he put self behind him, he put the world behind him, and he came down to Jesus, he came to salvation. Notice that he received the Lord joyfully, not just into his home but into his heart as well. Have you ever “Come down” and received the Lord Jesus Christ?
