September 27th, 2013 by Pastor SolleyPs 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Sheep under His care have flourished as we have seen over the past week, all their needs have been provided so that they are not in want, they have been protected in times of danger, even lifted above their enemies, they walk in goodness and mercy at all times, and they are secure. What now of the sheep, do they have any responsibility? Only one and that is still by choice, they are to submit to the constant care of the good shepherd. Sounds reasonable does it not? But in most flocks there are found one or two sheep who will not follow the shepherd, whoa re prone to wonder and stray. These sheep always put themselves in danger and never fully realize the peace and contentment that comes when they are under the shepherd’s care. Same with the sheep under the care of the good shepherd today. There are many Christians whoa re prone to wonder and stray, to fight against the care and direction, the leading of our good shepherd. They constantly place themselves in danger and worse they endanger other sheep as well with their bad example. Those one never realize the peace and contentment they could have if they would just submit to the good shepherd, the one who not only did die for them but lives for them today. As sheep we do have a responsibility to submit to the tender care of the shepherd.
