September 11th, 2013 by Pastor SolleyEph 2:4-10 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Remembering what we were helps us remember what we are, and it also helps us remember what we are to be. Salvation is completely a work of God, a work of grace, all we need to do is believe and receive the Lord Jesus Christ. What then after salvation? Here we see that as His workmanship we have been created in Him to work for and serve Him, created unto good works. Works do not save us, but works should follow our salvation. What a blessed thought, that one born in sin, born an enemy of God and Christ, could now be found working for Him, working for the God of creation, working for the very one who died to save us. A Christian with a mind on what he or she was also has a mind on what he or she is to be in Christ Jesus. Not content to just sit in heavenly places with Him, but desiring to serve Him day by day. Remember what you were and it will help you to remember what you are to be.
