Many who read these devotional will not know what “YOLO” means and some will. It is one of the latest abbreviations being used by young people and it means “You only live once”. It is used to excuse any action that one chooses to partake in. Have some fun, do what you please, don’t worry about tomorrow, it is your life, after all “YOLO”. Did you know that type of thinking is found in the Bible many times? The above Scripture is only one of them. Solomon says that a man should rejoice in his own works, in other words that man should do what pleases him. Then that wise man, corrupted by his money, power, and many wives asks a question, “Who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?” Who indeed? Solomon forgot a few things when he said this in the flesh. He forgot that those who were around him would be affected by his selfish actions. He forgot that one day he was going to answer to God for his actions. He forgot that he was responsible not only for himself but for a nation. He forgot he was about to ruin a good name. Solomon had a very good beginning, had a good name, and a good relationship with the Lord. Solomon was the wisest man and the richest man the world has ever know, but he was far from the best man the world has ever known. What happened to Solomon was “YOLO”. In a way that is true, we only do live once. But the way it is being presented today leaves out a few important things. Your actions today will have an affect on tomorrow, will affect those around you, and you will give account to God for them one day. (Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment)
