These verses give us the gospel, the good news, but what exactly is the gospel? There are many who claim to be on the way to heaven today who have never heard the true gospel, many who are trusting in good works, or a church, good intentions, the love of God, or any number of things to take them to heaven. But they have never received, perhaps never hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. What is that gospel? It begins with who Jesus is, the Christ. (Verse 3) People have many different ideas about who Jesus is. Some claim Him to be the highest of God’s creation, the highest ranking angel. Some claim that He was a good moral man who taught us how to love, respect, and treat one another. Some claim Him to be a prophet, others God’s representative in this world. But until you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the very Son of God, God in the flesh, you cannot receive the gospel. The Bible clearly states who Jesus Christ is in the first few verses of the Gospel of John and that is the Jesus that one must believe in. It would take more than an angel, more than a good man, more than a prophet to pay the sin debt, it would take God Himself. Jesus Christ is God, always has been, continues to be, and always will be God. According to the Scriptures Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. What Jesus do you believe in today? The answer to that question determines of you can receive the gospel of not.
