In the first part of this verse we see the Apostle Paul stating that he “Would that all men were even as I”. In his spiritual walk with the Lord, in his service to the Lord, Paul would that all men were like him. That is a powerful statement to make and says much about Paul. It is not a statement filled with pride but one given to Paul by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God. But the truth is that not all men were like Paul, so what was the apostle to do? He was to go on in the Lord preaching the gospel, becoming all things to all men that he might win some, be patient with the young Christians, admonish and instruct those growing in the Lord and so on. In other words he was to continue faithful in what God called him to do. So many times today we see Christian discourage by others, some to the point of just giving up in service and devotion to the Lord. We may wish that all were like us and when they are not it tends to take our eyes off of the Lord and His purpose for us. When that is the case with you, with me, turn your eyes toward Jesus and consider how short we fall of what He would have for us, what He expects from us. Still He does not give up on us and we should not give up in His work, we should not give up on others.
