May 23rd, 2013 by Pastor Solley2 Sam 23:15-16 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate! 16 And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the Lord.
David was a king that was blessed by God giving him some very mighty men to serve and fight for him. Three of them are found here risking their lives so David could have a drink from a certain well. It was not if David would have died had they not brought him this water, David had water to drink. So why risk their lives for David, why risk their lives for this water and for this king? Because they deemed David worthy. In any army the soldiers need to know they fight for a worthy cause, that they follow a worthy leader. David was worthy of their trust, loyalty, and service, even if it would cost them their lives. In this David is a type of Jesus Christ. As Memorial Day approaches we will think of those who served in the military branches of this nation and how they sacrificed for what they deemed a worthy cause and a worthy nation. As soldiers in the Christian army we have one who is worthy of our trust, loyalty and service, even to the giving of our very life to Him. What if God ask us to give Him a drink of water from a certain place? Would we go to the point of sacrificing our lives for Him? David has some mighty men who were willing to give their all for Him. Isn’t God worthy of that from us?
