And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan. 14 Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about. 15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? 16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
Here we find the king of Israel after the servant of God, Elisha. The prophet had been one step ahead of the king, letting it be known what the king was about to do and the king had enough of the prophet. His solution was to send an army after the prophet. As the prophet’s servant rises in the morning he sees the army surrounding them and knows the end is at had, there is nothing to do. As Elisha prays he asks the Lord to open the eyes of the man and as God does that the servant sees that truly there is more with them than with the enemy. Here is a question for you today; how did Elisha know the army of God was there? Elisha had the same physical eyes as his servant, eyes that could not see this invisible army, so how did Elisha know they were there? Elisha knew it by faith and prayer. Those two things had been the life of Elisha up to this point. From the time he left his home and served Elijah his life had been one of faith and prayer. Elisha could see that army by faith and because of his walk with the Lord. Perhaps we would not be so fearful of the future if we had that type of life of faith and prayer. Think about what God might allow us to see.
