Daily Devotions

Prov 1:5-9 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: 6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. 8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: 9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

Forgive me for being so late this morning, I was out in the woods with my son. It is spring turkey season here in PA and I had an opportunity to hunt with him this morning so I took it. We have some wonderful times together and hunting is part of that. I learn many things from him now, he is 25 and a serious hunter. But I think back as well and hope he has learned some things from me, not about hunting, but about the Lord and the things of the Lord. One thing I pray is that he learned and saw in me the fear of the Lord. (Verse 7) There are many things a parent teaches a child, son or daughter, but none are more important than what we find here in Proverbs. We live in a day when few have any fear of God and we see where that has taken us. Yet it is still wisdom, it is still knowledge, the fear of the Lord. We had a very good time this morning but for me just as good a time yesterday in the house of God.
