April 23rd, 2013 by Pastor SolleyJames 5:14-16 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
The last two times the word prayer is found in the Bible occur in James 5:16-16 where it speaks of first the prayer of faith and then effectual prayer. Many times today I hear from people that God is not answering their prayers or I am asked why God doesn’t answer prayer. It may very well seem that God is not answering prayer as He did at one time in your life and when that happens one often wonders why. The answer may be found in our reading this morning. First we find in verse 15 that it is the prayer of faith that saves the sick. I wonder how often we pray not believing God can or will answer. We pray, but we also doubt. If one prays in faith then they also pray believing God can and will answer our prayers. Not the answer may not come in the way we want it to, but our God can and our God does answer prayer. We need to pray in faith. We also find in verse 16 that it the prayer of a righteous man. So many times today we give God little reason to answer our prayers. If we want the blessings of God we need to walk in obedience to God. One cannot live in the world, walk in the world, serve the world, and then expect God to serve them. When it seems as if God is not answering prayer the first place we need to look to find the answer is within.
