March 4th, 2013 by Pastor Solley1 Thess 5:1-4 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
I find it amazing how many people seem taken by surprise by days they knew were coming. Some have an appointment with a doctor, made months and months ago, and they are surprised or act that when the day arrives. “I know I was to have blood work done, but I don’t have it yet”, or “I know I was to start exercising, but not yet”, these are some of the things I hear said waiting to go in for my appointment. A husband forgets an anniversary or a birthday as if they didn’t know that day was coming. People are overtaken by days they know are coming. The same thing takes place spiritually speaking. How many know that one day they will die, yet they will remain in sin and spend an eternity in hell. How many Christians know a day is coming when they will stand before the Lord in judgment, yet they remain slothful in service and their Christian walk. The Bible warns us that we are not to be overtaken by days that we know are approaching. We should live as if Jesus were going to return today, let nothing undone, be ready to stand before Him. Yet how few choose to live in that manner.
