Sleep is not a bad thing. We have taken note of the disciples of Jesus and how they were sleeping when they should have been awake, but sleep is not always a bad thing. Here we see Jesus taking the disciples apart so they could rest and sleep. We do need our sleep, those times each night when we can lay our head down and find rest for body and soul. But consider the passage and their need for sleep, then what they did when they awake. They were busy serving the Lord, and after sleeping they would be busy serving the Lord, they needed their rest and sleep so they could serve. Now there are few today who can give 100% of their time to serving the Lord, even a pastor cannot do that. We have homes to take care of, families to look after, wives and such that demand our time. Christians have jobs that they need to go to everyday. But we cannot let those things take so much of our time that we have no energy to serve Christ. Take some time to rest from this busy world, some time to be apart from all they activities of the world, some time to sleep, and then some time to serve Jesus. Many of us need to slow down and rest so we can have the energy to serve Jesus. Take some time to rest in Him.
